Laura Bruen is a multidisciplinary self-taught artist and photographer born in Brooklyn, NY to Kate Kennedy (teacher, acting coach and filmmaker) and Thomas S. Kyle, Esq.. A childhood filled with art, film, and music, Laura enjoyed drawing with charcoal and pencil. Laura’s mother worked at NYC’s Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), and as a result she grew up surrounded by art and culture. When her mother became an Art teacher, she frequently accompanied her to the museums, and grew up around iconic pieces of history. This inspired her to spend hours with charcoals and oil pastels. At the age of 10, Laura was introduced to a new medium, photography, when she was given a Nikon F3 as a birthday gift.
Her love of art continued into her adult years for even as she worked as an Institutional Sales Trader at Prudential Securities in New York City, Laura sold mixed media paintings to private NYC collections. She became enamored with the “new age” of advertising and schooled herself in Branding, Interactive Design and Animation. She left Prudential Securities whereupon she worked as an Interactive Creative Director for ZincMedia, Inc., where she won awards for developing online brand campaigns and designed co-branded websites for Toy ‘R Us, Cingular Wireless, Pepsi, Pfizer, Instinet, and Reuters to name a few.
Creative direction emphasized her passion for photography and Laura began to shoot professional headshots, later expanding into portraits, boudoir, events, and commercial photography. Her reputation behind the camera and as a painter grew, encouraging Laura to build her own studio. Her work appears regularly in American Bridal magazines. Laura blogs about her creative life interests and about being a New Jersey and New York Photographer on her official blog, Shoot-Scoop. Laura lives with her husband their two children in a renovated 1800s farmhouse near Red Bank, NJ and is available on assignment Internationally.
